Believed that the tongue of 'Sati' fell at this place, when
Lord-Vishnu threw his 'Charkra' to cut the body of Sati into Pieces, in
order to remove the attachment, Lord Shankar was displaying with her dead
body. It is a place of DHUMRA DEVI. It is recognised as the highest
seat of power among 52' SHAKTI-PITHS'. In this abode of God, Devi is
seen in the from of a bright flames(jyoti). The bright flames come out of
rock creeks at 9 different places without any fuel or ignition. Here Pt.
Jawahar Lal Nehru asked the Indian Geological Scientists to try and find
oil/gas, owing the origin of flame to some unknown gas link. Last forty year
have been wasted in the pursuit and the operation abandoned. Due to the
existence of holy goddess in the from of bright flame, she is know as 'Jawalaji'
and the place is popularly know as 'Jawala-Mukhi'.
