I sing praise of Shankara,
Who is the abode of mercy, Who is the abode of Shiva, Who is decorated
by headless body and skull (as Gana), Who slays the pride of Manoj (Kamadev),
Who possesses ashes, ghosts, king of snakes and a lion's skin, Who
forgives the fault of devotees, and Who always absolves the devotees
from the mundane existence.||2||
I sing praise of Shankara,
Who is the abode of mercy, Who is the abode of Shiva, Who beholds the
pure flow from Ganga in tresses, Who is Digambara, Who has the king of
night (moon) adorned in the middle of His head, Who is the great Lord,
and Who is the leader of monodent, Danda, skulls, skin, bull and
Ganesh.||3||
I sing praise of Shankara,
Who is the abode of mercy, Who is the abode of Shiva, Who has earring
and garland of snakes, Who is the Lord of Shiva, Who has a snake as
Upavita (sacred thread), Who is the Lord of demi-gods, Who destroyed
the poison named Kalakuta¹,
and Who protects the whole world.||4||
I sing praise of Shankara,
Who is the abode of mercy, Who is the abode of Shiva, Who bestows all
the wishes of ours, Who is the king of the arrows of Kama (essentially
beyond them), Who is resplendent like millions of sun, Who harasses
the grief of the three-worlds, Who is beautiful, Who is known as Hara,
and Who provides the power of chanting and tantra.||5||
I sing praise of Shankara,
Who is the abode of mercy, Who is the abode of Shiva, Who is a ruler
revered by everyone, Who has the knowledge of past, present and
future, Who destroyed the sacrifice of Daksha, Who absolves using the
chant of Mukunda (in Kashi)²,
Who destroys evils and worries, and Who has blooming lotus-like
eyes.||6||
I sing praise of Shankara,
Who is the abode of mercy, Who is the abode of Shiva, Who is Bhutanath,
Who pleases the ghosts, Who is served with Bhanga and ashes, Who
adorns the home of snow (Kailasa), Who is powerful, Who has blood-red
lips, and Who has snake-ornaments in ears.||7||
I sing praise of Shankara,
Who is the abode of mercy, Who is the abode of Shiva, Who destroys the
world (dooms day), Who is adored by the three-worlds, Who was not won
by Daksha, Kamadev (Manmath) or Andhaka, Who is the support of mercy
and art, Who has moon at crest, Who ends the world, and Who is beyond
mercy and compassion.||8||
O Yaksha, Who is the
consort of slayer of Shumbha (Parvati), Who has lotus-eyes, Who has a
snake garland, Who protects bliss and righteousness, Who nurtures the
world, Who destroys pain and grief of poor, Who is immortal and never
ages, Who swallows grief, Who is deft in giving, Who is beyond the
earth! Protect me.||9||
